Singer Arijit Singh left his fans shocked with the announcement of his retirement from playback singing. After establishing himself as one of the leading voices in the Indian music industry, Singh has decided to call it off. He shared the news through an Instagram post and thanked his listeners for their support over the years. He also explained his decision to step away, revealing that he is no longer taking new assignments as a playback vocalist.

Arijit Singh Announces Retirement From Playback Singing

On Tuesday evening, Arijit took to his Instagram handle and shared a note that read, “Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”

He also reassured his fans that he will finish his pending projects and clarified that he won't stop making music. This news came shortly after the recent release of his song Maatrubhumi from Salman Khan starrer Battle Of Galwan, which had surfaced on social media and earned the singer widespread praise for his vocals.

His post on his private X account read, "God has been really kind to me. I am fan of good music and in future will be learning more and do more on my own as a small little artist. Thanks again for all your support. I still have to finish some pending commitments , will finish them. So you might get some releases this year. Just to be clear that I won't stop making music.”

Soon, his posts went viral and his fans flooded social media platforms expressing their sadness over the retirement news.

One user wrote, "Some voices define a generation, yours defined an emotion. The mic might rest, but the magic will echo forever. End of an Era, but excited to hear the 'Real Arijit' in his original music now."

Arijit Singh's Illustrious Musical Career

Arijit Singh became an overnight musical sensation with the song Tum Hi Ho from Ashiqui 2, featuring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. Since then, he never looked back and delivered several hit tracks, including Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Title Track, Apna Bana Le, Hawayein, Ve Maahi, Gehra Hua, and Ghar Kab Aaoge from Border 2.

Throughout his playback singing career, Arijit has won two National Film Awards and was conferred the Padma Shri in 2025.
