Annu Kapoor Says Om Puri ‘Ruined’ Sister Seema Kapoor’s Life; Says ‘Failed As A Husband’

Veteran Bollywood actor Annu Kapoor has sparked a massive conversation online after speaking out about his troubled relationship with the late Om Puri. While Annu praised Om Puri as one of the greatest actors India has ever seen, he did not hold back when discussing the late star's personal life. Specifically, Annu accused him of betraying his sister, Seema Kapoor, and leaving her life in tatters.

Seema Kapoor was briefly married to Om Puri in the early 1990s. However, their marriage collapsed within months after Seema discovered that the actor was having an affair. Speaking to host Siddharth Kanan, Annu Kapoor explained the conflict between his professional respect for the actor and his personal anger as a brother.

Annu Kapoor made it clear that while he admired Om Puri's talent, he could never forgive his actions as a husband. During the interview, he stated, “Om Puri was a phenomenal actor. There was no great actor like him, but that is a different matter. He became someone's husband, and after becoming someone's husband, he betrayed a woman, and that is where things went wrong, and I am that woman's brother.”

He also revealed that during the final years of Om Puri's life, it was actually Seema who looked after him when his health began to fail. Annu confessed he was even upset with his sister for taking him back. He added, “He would have gone 10 years earlier, it was my sister who took care of him. When your body became weak and fragile, then you came back. I was also angry and upset with my sister.”

The details of this betrayal were shared by Seema Kapoor herself in a previous interview. She revealed that she was three months pregnant when she found out Om Puri was seeing a journalist named Nandita Puri while filming City of Joy. Despite Seema wanting to save the marriage, the emotional stress became too much.

Seema Kapoor recalled a painful moment after she lost her child, stating that Om Puri sent money through a secretary rather than coming to see her. She said, "Forget consoling me. He sent Rs 25,000 via his secretary. I turned it down, and his secretary told me, 'This ego is what is destroying you'. But what he thought was ego was just self-respect."

Om Puri eventually married Nandita Puri in 1993, but he reportedly apologised to Seema before his death in 2017. Annu Kapoor concluded by saying that while he has no "enmity" toward Om Puri’s son or his ex-wife Nandita, he remains deeply saddened that his sister Seema Kapoor still has "no support" today.
