Aakhri Sawal vs Pati Patni Aur Woh Do Box Office Day 1: The Indian box office witnessed an interesting clash this week as two highly anticipated films released in theatres on May 15, 2026. On one hand was Aakhri Sawal, a bold and serious political drama starring superstar Sanjay Dutt. On the other hand was Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, a light-hearted romantic comedy featuring an ensemble cast of Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Rakul Preet Singh.
Both films cater to completely different audiences, and their opening day numbers reflect that contrast. Here is a detailed look at how they performed on their first Friday.
Aakhri Sawal Box Office Collection Day 1
Sanjay Dutt's Aakhri Sawal had a much quieter start. The political movie deals with highly sensitive historical topics and was directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Abhijeet Mohan Warang.
On its opening day, Aakhri Sawal according to Sacnilk, recorded an India-tracked gross of Rs 53.84 L on Day 1 (Friday, 15 May 2026) at the box office. The film ran across 2,212 shows in 259 cities. Because of its intense and serious nature, the overall occupancy stood at a low 5.4%.
Pati Patni Aur Woh Do Box Office Collection Day 1
In comparison, directed by Mudassar Aziz, the comedy-drama Pati Patni Aur Woh Do managed to grab the larger share of the audience. The Bollywood movie has received a mixed bag of responses from both critics and regular viewers, but it still pulled in a decent number of theatre-goers.
According to early Sacnilk reports, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do collected a net of Rs 3.85 crore on its first day from 6,822 shows across India. The gross collection for the comedy movie in the domestic market reached Rs 4.62 crore. The movie earned an additional Rs 1 crore from international markets, bringing its total worldwide gross to Rs 5.62 crore on Day 1.
However, the overall theatre occupancy was modest at 11.94%. Although Pati Patni Aur Woh Do movie failed to match the 2019 original film starring Kartik Aaryan, which had opened to a solid Rs 9.10 crore.
While Pati Patni Aur Woh Do clearly won the battle on Day 1 in terms of total earnings, both movies face a tough road ahead. It remains to be seen which film will show better growth by Sunday evening.
