Karuppu Movie Review: The long-awaited Tamil action-fantasy film Karuppu finally hit cinemas on 14th May 2026. While the film generated massive excitement due to the reunion of superstars Suriya and Trisha Krishnan after nearly twenty years, the initial response has been far from positive. From last-minute show cancellations to harsh reviews on social media, the filmโ€™s opening day has been quite dramatic.

Karuppu Twitter Review

As soon as Karuppu's first shows concluded, social media platform X (formerly Twitter) was flooded with negative reactions. One user shared,"#karuppu Review - Movie solely depends on one liners. No story, no logic, just headache from start to end. Avg. 1st half. Mokka 2nd half. Torture Climax. Zero Emotional Connect. Disappointed !"

Another viewer from Malaysia was equally unimpressed, rating the Tamil movie 0.5/5. He wrote, "#KaruppuReview Just finished show in Malaysia. Marana mokka ๐Ÿ‘Ž. #RJBalaji worst direction and boring screenplay. Plot is like Mookuthi Amman meets Kanguva! #Suriya๐“ƒต Kullan overacts and is terrible. Kelavi #Trisha cameo waste. Headache BGM by #SaiAbhyankkar TRASH!"

A third review wrote, "As usual cringe from Suriya. Boring Screenplay. Zero Emotional connect. Humor didn't work. Torture Songs & BGM. Outdated Story & Making. Only positive thing is VFX."

Karuppu Release Issue

Karuppu's release was already under pressure after the morning shows were suddenly cancelled. Just hours before the premiere, producer SR Prabhu took to social media to announce that the 9 AM screenings would not go ahead. He wrote, โ€œDue to unavoidable reasons, 9 AM shows will be cancelled for Karuppu. Our sincere apologies to everyone!"

Meanwhile, this was particularly shocking because the newly appointed Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Joseph Vijay, had recently granted special permission for these early shows to take place.

Karuppu Movie Cast And Plot Details

Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu is a fantasy drama where Suriya plays a lawyer who takes on the human form of the village deity, Karuppusamy, to fight corruption and injustice. The cast also features Trisha Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Natty Subramaniam.
