Kara X Review: Dhanush’s highly anticipated Tamil action drama, Kara, finally arrived in theatres on Friday, April 30, 2026. Directed by Vignesh Raja, who previously gained acclaim for Por Thozhil, the film sees Dhanush in a gritty, layered role. The movie faced a notable box office clash with the Kannada actioner KD The Devil, which features a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty.

Despite the competition, early viewers have flooded social media platform X (formerly Twitter). So far, the film has garnered a thumbs up from the audience, particularly for its strong performances and its gripping plot.

Dhanush’s Kara Debuts To Positive Reactions From Audience

What Is The Storyline Of Dhanush Latest Movie Kara?

For those who haven't seen it yet, Kara is a period drama set in 1991 in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. The story unfolds against the global backdrop of the Iraq-US war, which has triggered a severe fuel crisis across the region.

Dhanush plays the character of Karasaami, also known as Kara, a man who has worked hard to escape a violent and grim past. However, the narrative spans 16 intense days where he is pulled back into the world he left behind. To protect his family and the villagers who depend on him for safety, Kara must confront unresolved conflicts and survive unexpected dangers.

Alongside Dhanush, the film features a strong ensemble including Mamitha Baiju, KS Ravikumar, Karunas, and Jayaram.
