For many viewers, I'm Not An Actor is a refreshing change from loud blockbusters. As one fan put it, “The irony of Nawazuddin playing an actor who doesn’t know acting while making it look this effortless How does he even do this?”
Nawazuddin Siddiqui's I’m Not An Actor Cast And Plot Details
I'm Not An Actor tells a unique story about Mouni (played by Chitrangada Satarupa), an actor in Mumbai, and Adnan Baig (Nawazuddin), a retired banker in Germany. The two connect via a video call for an acting lesson that lasts a single day. As they talk, they both have to face emotional truths they had kept hidden for years.
What makes this film even more special is how it was made. It is the first Indian film shot live across two countries at the same time. For 28 days, the two lead actors performed in real-time over video calls while camera crews filmed them in both Mumbai and Frankfurt.
Director Aditya Kripalani noted that I'm Not An Actor movie's humour is best enjoyed in a cinema setting. Nawazuddin Siddiqui agreed, stating, “We were surprised at how much fun audiences were having at the screenings in New York and even in San Jose. We thought that we must get people to see the film as a community even in theaters in our country.”
Nawazuddin Siddiqui Won Best Actor For I'm Not An Actor
Before arriving in Indian cinemas, I'm Not An Actor travelled to international festivals where it won several major prizes. Nawazuddin Siddiqui won Best Actor at the New York Indian Film Festival, and his co-star Chitrangada Satarupa took home the Best Actress award at the same event.
Distributor Shiladitya Bora of Platoon One Films explained why they wanted to bring this director's film to the big screen, “‘Main Actor Nahi Hoon’ is unapologetically a director’s film. Our focus is on targeting the right audience, securing the right screens, and giving the film a theatrical run that allows it to be experienced as intended on the big screen.”
I’m Not An Actor is currently playing in select cinemas across India.
