Tamil Nadu School Holiday Begins from April 17: The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has officially announced that summer holidays for school students will begin from April 17. With the completion of examinations for the 2025–26 academic year, students across the state are preparing to enjoy a long break.

Examinations for students from Classes 1 to 9 concluded on April 16, marking the end of the academic session. As a result, the summer vacation will now begin immediately. This year, students will receive an extended holiday period of 48 days, which is longer compared to the previous year when the vacation lasted around 35 to 40 days.

Schools across Tamil Nadu are scheduled to reopen on June 1, when the new academic session will begin.

Exams Conducted Early Due to Assembly Elections:

According to officials, examinations were conducted earlier than usual this year because of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Elections. Conducting the exams in advance allowed the department to complete the academic schedule smoothly and begin summer holidays earlier than normal.

Meanwhile, teachers will continue to work for some time even after the start of the holidays. Until April 25, teachers in government and government-aided schools, including those teaching LKG and UKG, must report to their respective schools. Their responsibilities include answer sheet evaluation, admission-related administrative work for the upcoming academic year, and election duties assigned by the district administration.

Teacher Duties and Election Schedule:

While students begin their break tomorrow, the workload for educators continues through late April to facilitate administrative and democratic processes:

Summer Vacation Starts April 17, 2026
