Varanasi School Holiday On Tuesday: Varanasi schools will remain closed on August 25, 2026, for students from Classes 1 to 8 following continuous heavy rainfall and an IMD red alert for the district and nearby areas. The decision was taken to ensure the safety of students.
Acting on the directions of District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar, Basic Education Officer Bhupendra Singh issued an order directing all eligible schools to observe a one-day holiday.
This order applies to all students from classes 1 to 8. The official order covers all government schools as well as schools affiliated with the CBSE, ICSE, Urdu Board, and Madrasa Board.
Varanasi Schools Closed for Classes 1 to 8
The closure order applies to all schools running Classes 1 to 8, including government, recognised, aided and schools affiliated with other education boards. School managements, principals and headteachers have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the order.
IMD Red Alert Prompts Closure Decision
The decision comes after the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert warning for Varanasi and surrounding areas, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. Authorities decided to suspend classes as a precautionary measure for students' safety.
Waterlogging Creates Difficulties for Students
Continuous rainfall has caused waterlogging in several parts of Varanasi, making commuting difficult and potentially unsafe, particularly for younger students. The administration took the decision to prevent students from facing risks while travelling to and from school.

Parents and guardians are advised to remain alert and follow official announcements from the district administration and schools regarding further updates. Authorities are continuing to monitor the weather situation and may issue additional instructions if required.
