Rajasthan Mid-Day Meal Scare: 27 Students Fall Ill After Eating Food At Government School In Kota; Details

Mid-Day Meal Food Poisoning: A concerning report has emerged from Rajasthan regarding the health of schoolchildren; 27 students fell ill on Monday after consuming the mid-day meal at a government upper primary school in the Kota district. These students, ranging from classes 1 to 8, complained of nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headaches, and dizziness around 1 PM.

The affected students were taken for medical attention, with some admitted for observation. Officials said all the children were stable and out of danger. District Education Officer (Elementary) Rup Singh Meena also visited the hospital to monitor their recovery.

Students Develop Health Complaints After Mid-Day Meal

According to officials and school staff, 110 of the school's 130 enrolled students were present when the mid-day meal was served. Soon after consuming the food, several students began reporting symptoms including nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache and dizziness.

Around 27 students reportedly complained of discomfort. Some were taken to the medical college for medical attention, while others remained under observation. Officials said four to five students required formal admission, while the remaining children were being monitored.

District Education Officer Visits Hospital

District Education Officer (Elementary) Rup Singh Meena visited the hospital after receiving information about the incident. He said that around 10 to 12 children had been brought to the medical college and that four children had already been admitted.

A medical team was deployed to examine the affected students. Initial treatment was provided, and doctors continued monitoring their vital signs to ensure that their condition did not deteriorate.

Same Meal Supplied to Other Schools

According to the education officer, the mid-day meal was prepared and supplied by Annapurna Sahakari Samiti to eight or nine other schools in the area.

Officials said students at those schools also consumed the same food, but no similar health complaints were reported there. The information is expected to be considered as authorities assess what may have caused the students' symptoms.

Students Under Observation, Officials Monitoring Situation

Authorities said the affected children were stable and out of danger. Medical teams are continuing to observe them as a precautionary measure.

The incident has raised concerns regarding the safety and quality of school meals. Further details about the cause of the illness are expected after authorities assess the food and circumstances surrounding the reported symptoms.

Rajasthan Minister Madan Dilawar met the children admitted to the hospital following the mid-day meal incident. He stated, "I am currently at the medical college. I met all the children, and they are doing well." He mentioned that they had been experiencing vomiting and dizziness but are now healthy. He added that the details of what happened and how it occurred are a matter for investigation.
