IAS officer Sanjay Dubey: Madhya Pradesh has taken action against 392 officials and employees of urban local bodies (ULBs) over alleged financial irregularities. Seven have been dismissed so far, and 135 of those facing action are chief municipal officers. Additional Chief Secretary (ACP) for Urban Development and Housing Sanjay Dubey said continuous AI-based analysis of purchases, using data from the MP e-Nagar Palika and Government e-Marketplace portals, flagged anomalies worth several crores. Recovery proceedings have begun, increments have been withheld, and some officials have been demoted.

Dubey came into the spotlight after a video of his April 2026 training session in Bhopal went viral. In it, he cited a garbage vehicle bought for Rs 2 lakh by one civic body and Rs 6 lakh by another, and a 60-watt LED bulb bought for Rs 306 in one place and Rs 11,800 in another.

His warning to officials was blunt: the department knows what is being bought, where, and at what price. The video gave the Opposition Congress a chance to attack the BJP government led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
