Symposium Overview and Objectives

The five-day symposium scheduled at IIT Madras from October 12 to 16, 2026, is designed to bring together faculty members, researchers, and scholars. The program focuses on examining how individual unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can collaborate as a reliable, coordinated swarm.

Key areas of discussion include emerging developments in swarm intelligence, autonomous navigation, distributed control systems, and multi-UAV coordination mechanisms essential for advanced aerospace applications.

National SwaYaan Initiative Alignment

This specialized training is hosted as part of 'SwaYaan', a flagship national initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The program aims to strengthen India's human resource capacity, R&D capabilities, and infrastructure in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and modern drone ecosystems. By bridging educational frameworks with industry needs, the initiative prepares researchers to address complex technical and socio-economic challenges in autonomous flight.

Hands-On Training and Technical Sessions

Participants at the symposium will experience a balanced curriculum merging rigorous classroom learning with extensive practical exposure. The technical agenda covers core drone fundamentals, autonomy and control frameworks, communication networks, and multi-agent systems.

Additionally, attendees will receive direct instruction in quadcopter assembly, mission planning software, flight simulation, and live drone piloting, alongside industrial interactions and an off-campus tech company visit.
