Tomorrow School Holiday Update: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan HV has announced a holiday for anganwadis, primary schools, high schools and PU colleges on Thursday as the district braces for heavy rainfall following a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department. The district administration said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff as heavy rain continues to affect several parts of the coastal district under the influence of an active southwest monsoon.

The district administration has officially declared a holiday for all anganwadis, primary schools, high schools and PU colleges in Dakshina Kannada district on July 2, 2026. Deputy Commissioner Darshan HV issued the order after the meteorological department warned of extremely heavy rainfall in the region.

The administration also instructed district-level and taluk-level officials to remain at their headquarters and respond quickly to any emergency situations or public complaints arising due to the adverse weather conditions.

Authorities have directed fishermen not to venture into the sea until weather conditions improve, as rough sea conditions are expected along the Karnataka coast. Tourists have also been advised to stay away from beaches, rivers and other water bodies during the warning period.

Residents have been urged to avoid visiting streams, ponds and flooded areas. Parents have been specifically asked to ensure that children do not play near drains, waterlogged roads or overflowing ditches during the holiday period.

Heavy Rainfall Continues Across Dakshina Kannada

Dakshina Kannada has witnessed continuous rainfall over the past two days, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas across the district. Till 8.30 am on July 1, the district recorded 67.3 mm of rainfall, with Ullal receiving 116.3 mm, Mulki 95.8 mm and Mangaluru taluk 91.7 mm.

Heavy rain during Tuesday night also caused the collapse of a tall compound wall at Kerebail near Thokkottu, destroying a neighbouring house. Fortunately, the family living in the house had moved out nearly two weeks earlier after noticing signs of danger, preventing a major tragedy.
