IIT Roorkee JEE Advanced: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has successfully conducted the JEE Advanced 2026 examination today, May 17, in two shifts across 221 cities in India and two international centres. The highly competitive exam was held in computer-based test (CBT) mode from 9 AM to 12 PM and 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
Only the top 2.5 lakh candidates who qualified JEE Main 2026 were eligible to appear for the exam. Students and coaching experts described the overall difficulty level as moderate to difficult, with Physics emerging as the toughest subject in both papers.

Students described Paper 1 as moderately challenging, noting that the questions demanded strong conceptual understanding and effective time management. Many candidates said Physics required deeper analytical thinking, while Chemistry felt more straightforward with several concept-based questions. Mathematics appeared manageable but lengthy, with calculations taking significant time during the exam.
Subject experts observed that the paper maintained the typical IIT Advanced approach of testing conceptual depth and problem-solving ability. They noted that the mix of question types and varied marking schemes added complexity, making careful reading and accuracy important for scoring well.
JEE Advanced 2026 Paper 2 Student and Expert Reaction
According to student feedback, Paper 2 was more demanding compared to the morning session. Many candidates felt the questions were longer and required more time to interpret and solve, especially in Physics, where numerical and application-based problems were prominent.
According to Ajay Sharma, National Academic Director – Engineering, Aakash Educational Services Limited, the JEE Advanced 2026 Paper 2 was generally perceived as challenging by both students and academic experts. The paper remained fully aligned with the official syllabus and featured a balanced distribution of questions from major chapters across Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Many questions required multiple steps and extensive calculations, making time management a significant factor for aspirants.
He noted that Physics and Chemistry demanded deeper conceptual understanding and analytical problem-solving, while Mathematics was comparatively moderate, though still calculation-intensive. When compared with the Aakash Final Test Series (FTS), the overall standard of the examination was considered to fall between FTS Code A and Code B, which many students felt closely reflected the actual exam pattern.

JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Pattern:
The exam consisted of two compulsory papers, each of three hours. Both papers together carried 360 marks.
Each paper had 54 questions divided equally among Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The exam was conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode, maintaining the traditional IIT Advanced pattern.
