- IIT Madras has revised the GATE 2027 Biotechnology syllabus.
- New topics have been added while some sections have been merged for streamlined content.

GATE Syllabus 2027: Several papers have been revised for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027, as confirmed by the official website. Biotechnology (BT) has received significant updates. Candidates appearing for the GATE entrance examination 2027 must review the updated syllabus before starting their preparation. Administered under IIT Madras, the Biotechnology syllabus has expanded while retaining core topics. Newer topics reflecting modern biotechnology have been added while engineering mathematics and core biological engineering concepts remain largely unchanged.

Changes In GATE 2027 Biotechnology Syllabus
Additional topics such as General Biology, Genetics, Cellular and Molecular Biology, and Plant, Animal and Microbial Biotechnology have been added while staying aligned with the established syllabus. The total number of sections in the syllabus has been reduced to six from seven after merging the Plant, Animal and Microbial Biotechnology sections with the Recombinant DNA Technology and Other Tools in Biotechnology.

New topics have been added to the GATE 2027 syllabus in the General Biotechnology section. These include:
Glycolysis and the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle
Fatty acid oxidation
Microbial physiology
Bacterial cell wall structure
Operons
Quorum sensing
Inflammation
Cytokines and chemokines
Immune responses
Immunodeficiency

GATE 2027 Registration To Commence On August 14
IIT Madras will commence the online registration process for GATE 2027 on August 14, 2026. Eligible candidates will be able to submit their applications only through the official GOAPS portal at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. The regular registration window without a late fee remains open until September 21, 2026, while applications with a late fee will be accepted up to September 30. The examination will be conducted across weekends in February 2027 (February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21).
