DU MTech Admission 2026: In a major change to its postgraduate admission process, the University of Delhi has announced that it will accept GATE scores for admission to its M.Tech programme for the first time. The decision will be implemented from the 2026 academic session. Until now, DU has mostly relied on entrance-based or merit-based admissions for postgraduate courses. However, this decision has come after the approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Talking about this decision, Haneet Gandhi, Dean of Admissions at Delhi University, said, “We have used GATE score for PhD admission before, but this is the first time it is being used for a PG course.  We will use the GATE score first, but if the seats do not get filled, then we will also use CUET-PG scores for the next round.”

GATE Scorecard To Get Preference

Implementing the new rule, Delhi University has clarified that it will prioritise candidates with a valid GATE scorecard for admission to MTech programs. As per the official notification, “Candidates with a valid GATE score will be given first preference, based on merit in their respective categories. If any seat in any category remains vacant, the same will be filled by candidates through CUET (PG) 2026-27, as per the merit, in their respective category.”

Furthermore, the university will open a separate admission portal for Mtech admission. The previously existing Common Seat Allocation System for Postgraduate admissions (CSAS-PG) portal will not be used for admissions.
