CBSE Class 12th OSM System Under Review: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday defended the Central Board of Secondary Education’s newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system amid concerns raised over discrepancies in the CBSE Class 12th evaluation process. Calling the digital evaluation system a “progressive instrument,” the minister said the initiative was introduced to improve transparency and student convenience.
Addressing media queries regarding complaints received from students after the declaration of Class 12 board results, Pradhan acknowledged that certain discrepancies had come to light. However, he assured students and parents that every grievance would be reviewed carefully and no concern would remain unresolved during the re-evaluation process.
Dharmendra Pradhan Assures Students Over OSM Discrepancies
The Union Education Minister stated that all answer sheets have been securely preserved and students need not worry about losing marks due to technical or evaluation-related issues. He emphasized that the government and CBSE are committed to resolving every legitimate complaint raised by students.
Pradhan said, “No student query or concern will go unanswered,” while assuring that corrective measures and proper solutions would be implemented wherever required.
What Is the CBSE On-Screen Marking (OSM) System?
The On-Screen Marking (OSM) system is a digital evaluation process introduced by CBSE to make answer sheet assessment more transparent and efficient. Under this system, students can access scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets and verify whether any question or section was left unchecked during the marking process.
According to the minister, the digital system also allows students to better understand the distribution of marks and reduces the possibility of manual evaluation errors.

Dharmendra Pradhan also highlighted that several universities and educational institutions in India and abroad are gradually adopting similar digital evaluation systems. He described the OSM initiative as a student-centric reform aimed at modernising the examination and assessment process.
CBSE is currently conducting the re-evaluation and verification process for Class 12 students, and further updates regarding discrepancy resolution are expected to be shared on the official board website.
