Annapurna Bhandar Scheme 2026: The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, has announced the official rollout of the landmark Annapurna Yojana, popularly known as the Annapurna Bhandar Scheme, starting today, June 1, 2026. This highly anticipated expansion follows a formal notification issued on May 19, 2026, marking a monumental shift in the state's social welfare framework.
The historic resolution to implement this scheme was passed during the very first cabinet meeting of the newly elected West Bengal government on May 11, 2026, setting the stage for direct financial empowerment of women across the region.
This new welfare program completely replaces the previous government's flagship Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme, significantly hiking the financial assistance to a flat Rs 3,000 per month for all qualifying women. To ensure a seamless structural changeover, the state government has announced that existing eligible Lakshmir Bhandar beneficiaries will be systematically migrated into the new framework, provided they clear the updated screening standards.
The formal physical and digital application window, which opened on May 27, 2026, gives residents a comprehensive 90-day period ending on August 25, 2026, to finalize their registrations through various localised networks.
