Muharram Holiday Schedule 2026: The Andhra Pradesh government has revised the Muharram School Holiday 2026 schedule following recommendations made by the Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board. The changes have been introduced based on updated lunar calendar calculations regarding the observance of Muharram.

According to the revised notification, the optional holiday earlier scheduled for June 16 has been shifted to June 25, 2026, while the general holiday that was originally fixed for June 25 will now be observed on June 26, 2026. The revised dates are intended to align with the actual observance of the Islamic month of mourning.

Revised Muharram Holiday Schedule 2026

The changes in the holiday calendar have been issued through G.O.Rt.No.1176 and G.O.Rt.No.1177 dated June 15, 2026.

Holiday Type Earlier Date Revised Date
Optional Holiday             June 16, 2026            June 25, 2026
General Holiday June 25, 2026 June 26, 2026

Officials stated that the 9th Muharram is expected to fall on June 25, while Ashura or the 10th Muharram, is likely to be observed on June 26, 2026.

Why Has the Andhra Pradesh Government Revised the Dates?

The state government said the revision was made after receiving recommendations from the Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board. Updated lunar calculations indicated that the previously notified holiday dates would not coincide with the actual observance of Muharram.

Authorities noted that retaining the optional holiday on June 16 would have placed it nearly ten days before the religious occasion, making a revision necessary.
