Former India captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday added another feather to his cap after President Draupadi Murmu conferred him with the Padma Shri Award, recognising his outstanding contribution to Indian cricket over the past decades. With this, Rohit became the 7th male cricketer to receive the prestigious accolade and joined the likes of Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Sourav Ganguly, among others.

Rohit Sharma received the award, which includes a certificate (called a Sanad) hand-signed by the President of India, a medallion and a miniature replica.

The Padma Shri is the fourth-highest civilian award in India, preceded by the Bharat Ratna, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan. The award was given annually by the Government of India to recognise citizens for their distinguished contributions in various spheres.
