Cricket Australia (CA) have rested Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc for the upcoming white-ball tours of Pakistan and Bangladesh to manage their workload after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

With this move, CA gave a chance to test some fresh talent while the senior pacers focus on recovering and preparing for the next World Test Championship cycle. Australia will return to Test cricket in August with a two-match home series against Bangladesh.

The pace trio will miss the three-match ODI series against Pakistan starting on May 30. In their absence, uncapped all-rounder Liam Scott and Australia Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Ollie Peake have received their maiden senior team call-ups.

The IPL season ends on May 31.

When will Australia stars, including Travis Head, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, featuring in IPL 2026 join the white-ball squad?

Young batter Joel Davies has also been included in the squad for the T20 series against Bangladesh in June. Meanwhile, Travis Head, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis and Xavier Bartlett, who are currently playing in the IPL, will join the Bangladesh tour once their franchise duties are over. Veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was not selected for either tour.

Mitchell Marsh will captain the side in both series as Australia starts building towards the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

Australia's chairman of selectors George Bailey, on selecting youngsters

Australia chairman of selectors George Bailey said the tours would help young players gain valuable international experience.

“It’s always exciting to see new players get the chance to represent Australia and be part of the national team,” Bailey said.

“We have a good mix of experienced players and young talent, which should work well in these subcontinent conditions.”

He also added that giving players exposure to different situations and conditions will remain an important part of Australia’s planning over the next couple of years.

Australia's white-ball schedule vs Pakistan and Bangladesh

Australia will play three ODIs against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on May 30 and in Lahore on June 2 and 4. After that, they will travel to Bangladesh for three ODIs in Dhaka on June 9, 11 and 14, followed by three T20Is in Chattogram on June 17, 19 and 21.
