MI vs PBKS IPL 2026: Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer had displayed his brilliant fielding skills while standing near the boundary, which has reignited the 'catch of the season' debates in their IPL 2026 match against the Mumbai Indians on Thursday. The incident occurred during the 18th over when Hardik Pandya tried to go big. During Marco Jansen's over, Hardik tried to play a big shot but couldn't connect properly, and the ball went high towards long-on. What happened after that was just brilliant fielding efforts.

While running quickly towards his left, Iyer followed the ball brilliantly while standing near the boundary line. Just when he was about to lose his balance and put his foot across the line, he tried to balance himself mid-air as he reached for a reverse cup, and when he was in the air, he threw the ball back into play.

Xavier Baartlett, who was standing near Iyer, took the catch brilliantly. Although Bartlett's name came up in the scorecard, it was truly Iyer's fielding brilliance.

The players' reaction had also gone viral. The MI players, including Rohit Sharma, were also surprised, as Iyer was seen cheering the fans and motivating them to praise him for this catch.

This was an important wicket. Hardik Pandya got out after scoring just 14 runs, which stopped the Mumbai-based franchise's late surge, as at one point it looked like they were about to score more than 200 runs.

Despite his dismissal, Mumbai set a massive 195-run target, driven by Quinton de Kock's unbeaten hundred and Naman Dhir's fifty.

During an innings dominated by big knocks, Iyer's fielding prowess became the highlight of the game. In this format, where smashing fours is quite easy and margins are very low, fielding efforts like this can turn the tide of the match.

It remains to be seen whether it becomes the catch of the season, but he has set the bar high.
