India defeated England by 7 runs in the semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium. They will now face New Zealand in the final in Ahmedabad on Sunday. England gave their all, but fell just short in the end as they were restricted to 246/7 in their 20 overs.

They've obviously got a lot more experience on this ground than us. T20 cricket is such a fickle game, you never know what's going to happen. Hopefully we can keep them quiet (the crowd). England won the toss and elected to field first in the important semifinal.

As per reports, India are unlikely to make any change for the upcoming match. Kuldeep Yadav could have been an addition in the XI, however, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side shall retain the side from the previous game.

“Jofra will continue bowling the short stuff. Throughout this World Cup, we have seen that the majority of his wickets against right-handers have come from back-of-a-length deliveries, around eight metres or even shorter than that. He will continue doing that against Sanju Samson as well. Normally, Samson stands on the leg stump. Now, against Jofra, how do you score runs? One option is to create a little more room, try to move outside the leg stump, and as he is about to deliver, shift slightly to create room and play on the off side. Another option for Sanju is to initially focus on rotating the strike and give as many deliveries as possible to Abhishek, because someone like him will look to take on Jofra Archer,” Cheteshwar Pujara said.

“You cannot count Buttler out. He is one of the most experienced batters in the England team, and he is not afraid to play his shots once he is set. If you have scored more than 4,000 runs in the T20 format, you know what you are doing. Even if you are going through a rough patch, you know how to come back, how to handle pressure, and in a big game, how to raise your standards. I would like Bumrah to bowl at least one over within the first three overs. Against Buttler, he should try to pitch the ball around that eight-metre length or slightly shorter. We also saw Jos Buttler getting out to Lockie Ferguson in one of the games, caught behind. So, if possible, try to replicate a similar delivery. The advantage for Jasprit Bumrah is that he has a very good yorker as well as a slower ball. If the back-of-a-length delivery is not working, he can always mix it up,” Pujara said.

The opening combination for both sides has blown hot and cold in the entire tournament. On a batting-friendly surface, lies a golden opportunity for the batters on both sides to regain form. 

India, barring the 76-run loss against South Africa in their first match of the Super 8s clash, have had a decent run, winning six of their seven T20 WC encounters so far. Notably, England played two matches in Mumbai. The Harry Brook-led side faced troubles against Nepal as they narrowly escaped a defeat followed by a 30-run defeat against West Indies.

In 29 matches between the two sides, India have won 17 of them while England clinched 12. The tally is 3-2 in T20 World Cups, 10-6 in matches played in India, and 7-3 across the last 10 encounters.

It will be interesting to see if a team winning the toss will opt to bat first in a high pressure game like this. The management of both sides, will also take the green tinge on the pitch into account as well. The toss is scheduled to take place soon!
