Axar Patel-led Delhi Capitals (DC) registered their fourth win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 after defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets at Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

However, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's dismissal created controversy as DC pacer Kyle Jamieson was penalised by the BCCI for his aggressive send-off to the 15-year-old RR batter, as he got too close to the youngster while celebrating his wicket.

Mitchell McClenaghan on Kyle Jamieson's animated celebration

BCCI warned Jamieson and handed him over one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct. Amid the criticism, Jamieson received support from former Mumbai Indians pacer Mitchell McClenaghan. While speaking on JioHotstar, McClenaghan highlighted the importance of the wicket, saying Sooryavanshi had been a major threat to the bowling attack. He added that dismissing him early likely led to Jamieson’s reaction.

"It was a big moment in the game, and you could see the emotion in that celebration. When you're up against a young batter who has been dominating bowlers throughout the tournament, getting his wicket early brings that natural reaction," said McClenaghan.

When did the incident happen?

The incident itself took place in the second over. Sooryavanshi hit Jamieson for a boundary, but the pacer responded on the very next ball. He bowled a low full toss, and the batter, deep in his crease, tried to dig it out. However, he only managed an under-edge, with the ball hitting his back pad before crashing into the stumps. He was dismissed for four runs off two balls, leaving RR at 12 for 2.
