The joke originates from the IPL rule, which mandates all franchises to field not more than 4 overseas players in the team. Following his retirement from Test cricket in 2025, Kohli has been residing in England with his wife, Anushka Sharma, and children Vamika and Akaay and only travels to India during tournaments.

According to reports, Kohli prepared for IPL 2026 in England and returned to India just ahead of RCB's tournament opener against SRH. However, Kohli's form remains unaffected with this shift. He has amassed 893 runs in the last 10 innings he has played with the white ball, including four centuries.

The topic of Kohli residing in England makes trends on social media. Recently, a post went viral which claimed that Virat Kohli had asked the RCB management to book a chartered flight for him to travel back and forth to London between matches. However, Kohli himself denied any such request.
