DC vs RR IPL 2026: Rajasthan Royals opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has continued his exceptional form this season, becoming the first Indian batter to record the most sixes in a single IPL season. He accomplished this during the IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, raising his total to 43 after just 12 games.
Sooryavanshi set this record with a determined 46 runs off 21 balls, hitting three sixes and surpassing Abhishek Sharma (42 in 2024), Shreyas Iyer (39 in 2025), and Virat Kohli (38 in 2016).
His performance this season stands out, as his aggressive batting delivers rapid starts as an opener and draws comparisons to elite power hitters.

“I think the fact is that he's hitting the ball well, he's getting us those really quickfire starts. I think the most exciting thing is just how he looks at batting. He looks at it like all of us should, as a 15-year-old, as a kid would. He loves it. He bats for long hours, and that's the most exciting thing", Kumar Sangakkara, who is the head coach of the Rajasthan-based franchise, was heard as saying at the time of the match.
Comparison with IPL greats remains ongoing
“He really reads the game as well, so it's not just mindless hitting with him. He's a much better player than I would ever be, so he needs a little help, but not too much", he further said.
Despite breaking Indian records, Sooryavanshi still trails Chris Gayle, who smashed 59 sixes for RCB in IPL 2012.

With two group-stage games remaining, the young opener can approach Gayle’s record, and if Rajasthan qualifies for the playoffs, Sooryavanshi will have further opportunities to surpass it. Given his strike rate and aggressive approach, Vaibhav could break the overall record.
His tournament prospects hinge on both youth and performance. While several Indian batters have enjoyed impressive six-hitting runs, none have achieved such results so swiftly or at such a young age. With the Riyan Parag-led side still vying for the playoffs, Sooryavanshi could set more records in the coming matches.
