IPL 2026: Ex-India cricketer Aakash Chopra has highlighted the Gujarat Titans' reliance on their top-order, noting Jos Buttler's poor form could be a major weakness. Last year, brilliant performances from Sai Sudharsan (759 runs), Shubman Gill (650 runs), and Buttler (538 runs) propelled the team to the playoffs, though they lost to the Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator.

Aakash Chopra, speaking on his YouTube channel, stressed that Gujarat heavily depends on their top order performing deep into the innings, saying that at least one batter needs to stay till the 15th over for consistent results.

“Their main challenge is the continued overdependence on the top three. Success relies on at least one of the top three batters being present till the 15th over to avoid early collapses," Chopra said.

Buttler’s Form ‘Pedestrian’

He questioned Jos Buttler's current poor form, calling it "pedestrian" compared to his earlier performances, and warned that if Buttler continues to struggle, it could pose a big challenge, as neither opener can score in every match.

He has scored just 87 runs across eight matches in the recently concluded mega event.

“Jos Buttler’s current form is very pedestrian; he struggled even in favorable conditions and looked more ordinary than in any World Cup edition. This could be a major issue for the Gujarat Titans, since both openers can't be expected to deliver every match," he concluded.
