ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Final: Ravi Shastri, the former India head coach, has been a part of some iconic moments in the history of cricket in the country. Specifically, as a commentator, Shastri has given some iconic lines that will be remembered for a very, very long time. His "MS Dhoni finishes off in style" remark, as the former skipper hit the winning six against Sri Lanka in the final 15 years ago, still remains fresh in the minds of fans.
However, things remained a bit disappointing when it came to Shastri's effort on the mic after India won the T20 World Cup 2026 title after defeating New Zealand in the final in Ahmedabad on Sunday. "Taken in the deep. The ninth wicket goes down," said Shastri as New Zealand lost Jacob Duffy's wicket to Abhishek Sharma. Shastri, however, soon realised his mistake that it was the 10th wicket, not the 9th.

While celebrations began in an emphatic fashion at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, fans were left disappointed and were left down by Shastri's confusing remarks. Correcting the error, he said in the commentary box: "And it's all done, actually. It's India who win the World Cup for the third time. The first team to win back-to-back World Cups and the first hosts to win the T20 World Cup on their home turf. It's a fantastic performance for India."
India create history in Ahmedabad
After being put into bat first, India posted a mammoth total of 255/5 in their 20 overs on the back of Sanju Samson's 89-run knock, whereas Abhishek Sharma (52) and Ishan Kishan (54) smashed crucial fifties. They bowled out the Blackcaps for 159 in 19 overs as Jasprit Bumrah produced an outstanding bowling figure of 4/15 in his four overs.

The Men in Blue became the first team to win the T20 World Cup three times, and won the tournament on home soil. In the last three years, India have clinched three ICC titles, starting right from the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid. Then, in the Champions Trophy, they defeated New Zealand to claim the second title.
