Ishan Kishan came up with a sharp response to Kirti Azad's controversial comments following India's T20 World Cup 2026 title win. The Men in Blue defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final to win their third T20 World Cup at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Fans and supporters gathered at the Patna airport to welcome Kishan, who played a key role in India's T20 World Cup win. During an interaction with journalists, Kishan was asked about Azad’s remarks regarding Team India taking the World Cup trophy to a temple after the win and not going to other religious places like the church or dargah.

However, Kishan avoided getting involved in the controversy. Instead, he shifted the focus back to the team’s achievement and urged reporters to ask questions about the World Cup. "I have just won such a wonderful World Cup - please ask better questions. What can I say about what Kirti Azad said? Please ask some good questions. Tell me how it feels and how much fun it was," Kishan said.

The controversy began after Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav, head coach Gautam Gambhir and ICC chairman Jay Shah visited a Hanuman temple in Ahmedabad with the trophy following the World Cup victory. Azad took to social media and wrote that the trophy belongs to the entire nation and represents 1.4 billion Indians of every faith. He questioned why the trophy was taken to a temple and asked why it was not also taken to a mosque or gurdwara.

Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Gautam Gambhir, and a few other players had also visited temples before the semifinal and final of the tournament.

Talking about Ishan, he headed into the tournament on the back of an outstanding form. He made his return to the team after two years, having impressed the national selectors with his incredible performances in domestic cricket. Kishan scored 317 runs in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in nine innings at an average of 35.22. He played a fiery knock of 54 runs in the final in 25 balls with the help of five boundaries and as many sixes.
