ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Final: India's star pacer Arshdeep Singh has been penalised by the ICC for his action during the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. He has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

Arshdeep was involved in a controversial incident during the 11th over of New Zealand's innings when he fielded the ball on his follow-through and threw it back, striking Daryl Mitchell. The fast bowler was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to "throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match."

In addition to the fine, one demerit point has been added to Arshdeep's disciplinary record. It is his first offence in a 24-month period.

The charge on Arshdeep was levelled by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf, third umpire Allahuddien Paleker and fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock. While Arshdeep accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel, there was no need for a formal hearing.

Having already shaken hands with Mitchell during the same over at the non-striker's end, Arshdeep talked it out again with New Zealand's star batter after India won the title following a dominating 96-run victory over the Blackcaps. He was seen talking and having a hilarious chat with Mitchell while the other Indian players were celebrating the title win. The video of their little interaction went viral on social media.

Arshdeep also talked about the incident during an interview with the broadcasters. "I just went to say sorry to Mitchell. My throw reverse-swung a bit too much, and it hit his body, so I told him that I didn’t hit him intentionally," he said.

Arshdeep had a promising outing in the tournament, having taken 9 wickets in 8 innings. He seemed a bit out of touch at times during a few matches, but his best performance came against Zimbabwe, taking three wickets for 24 runs in the must-win Super 8 fixture in Chennai. At the age of just 27, Arshdeep has won the T20 World Cup twice. He was India's leading wicket-taker when India lifted the trophy in Barbados in 2024.
