India created history on Sunday as they won the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 title after defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup thrice, also the first to defend the title and win the competition on home soil.

Acknowledging the Indian team's incredible achievement, the BCCI announced a cash reward of Rs 131 crore for the Indian cricket team players and support staff on Tuesday. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side lost just one game in the entire competition, which was against South Africa in Ahmedabad in the Super 8 stage.

While the BCCI did not provide any breakdown of the cash reward, a report in the PTI claimed that the cricketers will receive the lion's share of the Rs 131 crore prize money while the amounts for the support staff will be decided 'as per hierarchy'.

The Men in Blue also received a substantial financial reward from the International Cricket Council (ICC) after their title triumph. They claimed the winner's purse of USD 2.34 million (approximately Rs 21.5 crore) awarded by the International Cricket Council. The runners-up, New Zealand, received USD 1.17 million (around Rs 10.75 crore).

Soon after returning from Ahmedabad, the skipper Suryakumar reflected on the side's successful campaign and the road ahead. "It feels good to win 24 and 26 back-to-back. It is a very special feeling. When we won in 2024, we thought it would be so special to do this again at home in 2026.

"The next target is to win the Olympic gold in 2028. The team has a good momentum. If India wins the T20 World Cup in the same year, it will be great."
