India win ICC T20 World Cup 2026: India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8. Having outclassed the Blackcaps in all departments, India lifted their third T20 World Cup, also creating history by becoming the first team in the history of the tournament to defend their title and win it on home soil.

Unlike the 2024 edition, in India’s record-extending third T20 World Cup title win in 2026, all 15 players managed to play at least one game and made a significant impact, whether it was with the bat, ball or fielding.

After being put into bat first in front of the jam-packed stadium, India produced an outstanding effort and posted a mammoth total of 255/5 in their 20 overs on the back of Sanju Samson's 89-run knock, whereas Abhishek Sharma (52) and Ishan Kishan (54) smashed crucial half-centuries. Shivam Dube provided the finishing touches with a fiery 26-run cameo in just eight balls with the help of three fours and two sixes.

On the other hand, the Blackcaps were bowled out for 155 in 19 overs. Jasprit Bumrah came up with yet another special performance as he took four wickets for 15 runs in his four overs, whereas Axar Patel took three scalps.


Here’s a look at how Indian players performed in the T20 World Cup 2026:

Sanju Samson – 321 runs

Sanju Samson headed into the tournament with disappointing batting form. He played five matches for the Indian men’s cricket team in the T20 World Cup 2026 and scored a total of 321 runs. He registered scores of 97* from 50 balls against the West Indies, 89 from 42 balls against England and 89 from 46 deliveries in the final vs New Zealand.

The 31-year-old finished the tournament as the second top run-getter, only behind Sahibzada Farhan. He broke the record of scoring the most runs in a T20 World Cup edition for India in 2026 and also topped the list of batters with the most sixes (24) in one edition of the men’s shortest format mega-event.


Abhishek Sharma – 141 runs and 1 wicket

World No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma played eight matches for the Men in Blue in the 2026 T20 World Cup and scored 141 runs. The left-handed three ducks in the group stage, but slammed half-centuries against Zimbabwe in the must-win Super 8s match and in the final vs. New Zealand. In addition to that, he also picked up the last wicket for India in the summit clash on March 8.


Ishan Kishan – 317 runs

Ishan Kishan played five T20 World Cup 2026 matches as an opener and four at No. 3. With the help of three half-centuries, Kishan scored 317 runs for the Suryakumar Yadav-led side and finished as the second-highest run-getter. He bagged the Player of the Match award in the high-voltage Group A match against Pakistan on February 15 for his innings of 77 runs from 40 balls.

 

Suryakumar Yadav – 242 runs

Suryakumar Yadav has become the third player, after MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, to lead India to the T20 World Cup title win. He finished the 2026 edition of the tournament with a total of 242 runs in nine matches. He played an unbeaten knock of 84 runs in India’s tournament opener against the United States of America, but wasn’t able to build on that performance with the bat.


Tilak Varma – 207 runs

Tilak Varma played the first five matches of the T20 World Cup 2026 as a No. 3 batter but didn't look in great touch. After Samson was included in the playing XI from the Super 8s match against Zimbabwe, Tilak was dropped to the middle order, and he reinvented his game to play a few crucial knocks. Overall, he finished the tournament with 207 runs (strike rate of 154.47) in nine matches.


Shivam Dube – 235 runs and 5 wickets

Shivam Dube was one of India’s best performers in the T20 World Cup 2026. He played all nine matches and scored 235 runs in addition to taking five wickets. In the final of the tournament, he created a major impact with a fiery knock of 26 runs from 8 balls and added 24 runs to India’s total in the 20th over.


Hardik Pandya – 217 runs and 9 wickets

Hardik continues to impress with his ability to come up with crucial performances in all departments. He had yet another memorable campaign, registering 217 runs and 9 wickets in nine games in the T20 World Cup 2026. Hardik, who is India’s second most capped player in T20Is, slammed two half-centuries (vs Namibia and Zimbabwe) and bagged the Player of the Match award in both games.


Axar Patel – 16 runs and 11 wickets

India's vice-captain Axar Patel didn't look in the best of touch with the bat, but his bowling and fielding did wonders for the team. He took 11 wickets and produced magical efforts on the field, including two outstanding catches in the semifinal against England.


Jasprit Bumrah – 14 wickets

Bumrah was the most consistent performer for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He played eight matches and dismissed 14 batters, which includes figures of 4 for 15 in four overs in the final against New Zealand. The 32-year-old pacer bagged the Player Of The Match award in the final.


Washington Sundar – 11 runs

Washington Sundar played a couple of matches for India in the T20 World Cup 2026 and scored 11 runs with the bat in one innings against South Africa.


Arshdeep Singh – 9 wickets and 7 runs

India’s highest T20I wicket-taker, Arshdeep Singh, played eight out of nine matches in the T20 World Cup 2026 and picked up 9 wickets. His best performance came in the Super 8 match against Zimbabwe, taking three wickets for 24 runs in Chennai.


Mohammed Siraj – 3 wickets

Mohammed Siraj played just one match for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which was the opening fixture against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He picked up 3 wickets for 29 runs in four overs to set up a win by 29 runs for the Men in Blue.


Varun Chakaravarthy – 14 wickets

World No. 1 T20I bowler Chakaravarthy finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup 2026. He played nine matches and got rid of 14 batters.


Kuldeep Yadav – 1 wicket

Kuldeep got a chance to play only one match in the T20 World Cup 2026. In the fixture played against Pakistan at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Kuldeep bowled three overs and picked up one wicket for 14 runs.


Rinku Singh – 24 runs

Rinku Singh played five matches as a lower-middle-order batter in T20 World Cup 2026 but was only able to score 24 runs.
