Great News for the Delhi Capitals as Australia speedster Mitchell Starc has been cleared by Australia to feature in competitive cricket. The pace spearhead will now be available for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
The left-arm fast bowler had been out of action due to elbow and shoulder injuries he picked up during the Australian summer. Once he reaches India, he is expected to ease back into the game and slowly increase his workload.
When will Starc play?
Starc will likely to play his first match of the season against the Rajasthan Royals on May 1, which will be the 43rd match of IPL 2026. He had missed the early part of the tournament because of his injury.
Before this break, Starc had a busy schedule. He played all five Tests in Australia’s Ashes series win and was named Player of the Series. After that, he also turned out for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League.

Starc responds to criticism
Starc had earlier spoken out about the delay in joining the IPL. In a post on social media, he made it clear that he was dealing with injuries and needed time to recover properly. He also said that some media reports about his situation were inaccurate and that only he truly understands his own fitness.
Meanwhile, another Australian fast bowler, Pat Cummins, is also expected to return soon. He will lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad after recovering from a back injury.
