IND vs AFG: The Indian team management has revamped its ODI squad for the three-match series against Afghanistan, scheduled for next month. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer continue to lead as captain and vice-captain alongside senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

In the batting lineup, selectors have dropped Yashasvi Jaiswal. For a long time, Jaiswal filled the role of the third opener in this format, with Gill and Rohit commanding the preferred spots. He smashed an unbeaten 116 runs during the third ODI against South Africa, but then missed the series against New Zealand.

Hardik Pandya, who skipped the ODI series against New Zealand, returns to the ODI team. However, his participation in this series hinges on fitness clearance.

The other major changes shake up the wicket-keeping and bowling lineup. Rishabh Pant, who featured in India's ODI series against New Zealand, exits the squad. Ishan Kishan steps in, showcasing superb form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the 2026 T20 World Cup, and now competes in IPL 2026.

Pant's form has witnessed. For Rishabh Pant, this series marks a tough phase. His recent struggles as captain have led to his removal as India's Test vice-captain, adding to his dip in form. The challenges he faces highlight the emotional toll on him as a player. Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj have been dropped. BCCI officials announced during the press conference that Jadeja receives a well-deserved rest.

“He (Jadeja) is still an integral part of the team. Regarding ODIs, given the 15-16 months left, we want to assess our options while keeping conditions in South Africa in mind. We know what Jadeja and Axar can do. With regards to Tests, he remains the No. 1 spinner", Ajit Agarkar told reporters during the press conference.

Spin all-rounder Harsh Dubey replaces Jadeja in the team, while Delhi's Prince Yadav steps in for Siraj.

Harshit Rana exits the squad due to a knee injury suffered before the 2026 T20 World Cup. Punjab's Gurnoor Brar earns his maiden call-up and steps in to replace Harshit.
