Delhi Capitals Playoff Qualification scenario: New Zealand destructive batter Finn Allen played a brilliant unbeaten knock to keep Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 playoff race as they crushed Delhi Capitals (DC) by eight wickets in a one-sided contest.
KKR stay in contention for IPL 2026 Playoffs
The explosive opener dominated the chase from the start and finished the match in style by smashing a six to bring up his maiden IPL century at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Chasing a target of 143, Kolkata made the task look incredibly easy. They reached the target in just 14.2 overs while losing only two wickets. The massive win gave them two crucial points and also helped improve their Net Run Rate, which now stands at -0.169. KKR are currently placed seventh on the points table with nine points, but their playoff hopes are still very much alive.
How DC can qualify for Playoffs
For Delhi Capitals (DC), however, the defeat could prove to be the end of their campaign. The Axar Patel-led side has struggled throughout the season and now has only four wins from 11 matches. Their Net Run Rate has also taken a major hit and dropped to -1.154 after this heavy loss.
Delhi’s path to the playoffs has now become extremely difficult. Even if they win all their remaining three matches, they can only reach a maximum of 14 points. In most IPL seasons, that total is usually not enough to guarantee a place in the top four.
Apart from winning all their games, Delhi also need several other results to go in their favour. They must improve their poor Net Run Rate with big wins and hope that other teams above them lose matches. Their qualification chances now depend more on complicated calculations than on their own performances.
How KKR can seal berth for IPL 2026 Playoffs
On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders have made an impressive comeback after a terrible start to the season. They failed to win any of their first six matches but are now on a four-match winning streak.
KKR's equation to seal playoffs berth is simple. If they win their remaining four matches, they will finish with 17 points and secure a playoff spot without depending on any other team. However, even one loss could make things complicated, while two more defeats would officially knock them out of the tournament.
IPL 2026 Points Table
At the top of the table, Sunrisers Hyderabad continue to lead with 14 points from 11 matches and an impressive Net Run Rate of +0.737. Punjab Kings are close behind in second place with 13 points.
