Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad believes the Chepauk surface is on the drier side and is unlikely to change much as the match progresses. He also downplayed the impact of dew, stating that it shouldn’t be a major factor this early in April.

"Our title-winning seasons have often been built on solid opening partnerships," he said, explaining the idea behind opening with Sanju Samson. Gaikwad also confirmed one change in the XI, with Prashant Veer replacing Matthew Short.

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, said opting to bowl first was a calculated decision considering the freshness of the pitch. "Since it is a fresh wicket, we want to make first use of it," he explained.

He further highlighted the confidence within the PBKS camp, stating that their strong line-up gives them belief, even against a consistent side like CSK. "I like to take on the bowlers when the chips are down. I don't want them to dictate terms," adding that he will carry the same mindset into this match.
