CSK vs DC IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings star wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson had become the fourth Indian batter to have hit 400 or more sixes in the shortest format. He had achieved the milestone in the IPL 2026 match against the Delhi Capitals at the Chepauk. He had smashed his fourth hundred in the tournament and his first for the Chennai-based franchise after being traded to the side last year from the Rajasthan Royals. He had smashed four sixes and took his tally to 401. The ex-Rajasthan Royals skipper has joined the elite list of players like Rohit Sharma (554), Virat Kohli (440), and Suryakumar Yadav (421).

But Samson (1.26/innings) has the best six-hitting speed of all the batters of Suryakumar (1.25/innings), Rohit (1.22/ innings), and Virat (1.10/innings).

In the ongoing match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, an out-of-form batter, Samson, who was seen struggling since the last three matches, made a brilliant comeback by scoring an unbeaten knock of 115 runs off 56 balls, in which he had smashed 11 fours and four sixes at a staggering strike rate of 205.36.

Of all his centuries in this tournament, he has smashed two for the Rajasthan-based franchise (during IPL 2019 and IPL 2021) and for the Delhi Capitals (2017 IPL).

He had stitched a brilliant partnership of 113 runs with Ayush Mhatre. He was the second-highest against DC for any wicket in this tournament, apart from the 141-run partnership built by Conway and Gaikwad for the first wicket during IPL 2023.

Samson scored 84 off 39 balls against fast bowlers at a 215.4 strike rate, hitting 11 fours and three sixes. Against spinners, he added 31 off 17 at a 182.3 strike rate, with four fours and one six.

Speaking of the game, Axar Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first. Although CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaiwad was struggling in the 62-run partnership for the first wicket, Samson was in sublime form, as this is the same venue where he had won the Player of the match award during the 2026 T20 World Cup.

He had stitched a 113-run partnership with Mhatre, and a gritty knock by Shivam Dube helped the host post a target of 212 runs, where captain Axar Patel was the pick among the DC bowlers.
