Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings will take on Lucknow Super Giants in Match 53 of the Indian Premier League at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

CSK's Appeal to fans

Ahead of the game, CSK made a special request to fans visiting the Chepauk Stadium. The franchise asked supporters not to bring banners, flags, or posters linked to any political party or political leader. In a message shared on social media, CSK urged fans to focus on enjoying the match and celebrating the spirit of cricket.

“Come celebrate cricket and the spirit of the game with us. Anbuden request our superfans to avoid bringing banners, flags or hoardings associated with any political party/person and enjoy the game with full yellove,” CSK wrote in a post that they made on their social media handles early on Sunday.

C. Joseph Vijay takes oath as Tamil Nadu CM

The request came on the same day actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay took oath as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, pulled off a surprise victory in the recent state elections by winning 108 seats. With support from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML, the party crossed the majority mark and formed the government.

Will CSK qualify for IPL 2026 playoffs

On the cricket side, CSK are still fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive. The team has found some form at the right time, winning their last two matches. They first defeated Delhi Capitals by eight wickets away from home and then comfortably beat Mumbai Indians by the same margin in Chennai.

LSG are out from playoffs race

LSG, however, have already fallen out of the playoff race. Although they beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by nine runs through the D/L method in their previous match, their overall season has been disappointing. Out of 10 matches, LSG have managed only three wins while losing seven games. They currently have six points with a net run rate of -0.934.
