Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings have announced Akash Madhwal as Ayush Mhatre's replacement for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Mhatre who was India's Under-19 World Cup-winning captain ruled out of the cash-rich league due to injury. 

Ahead of their high-voltage clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI), CSK announced that Akash Madhwal will be a part of the franchise for the rest of the tournament.

Who is Akash Madhwal?

The right-arm fast bowler Madhwal has previously represented Mumbai Indians (MI) (2023, 2024) and Rajasthan Royals (2025). He has featured in 17 IPL matches, picking up 23 wickets. He also has a five-wicket haul to his name, having recorded sensational figures of 5/5 in his debut season for MI in the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants.

The Chennai-based franchise failed to get a good start in the cash-rich league as they are currently on number eight in the points table tally with two wins in six outings.
