The Canada men’s cricket team has taken a big step by appointing former Rajasthan Royals and Andhra Pradesh Ranji coach Monty Desai as their new head coach. He has also worked with the national teams of Nepal and Afghanistan in the past. However, the board has not yet confirmed how long he will stay in the role.
The decision was announced by Cricket Canada president Arvinder Khosa through an official statement. He said the main goal behind bringing in Desai is to improve the team’s performance and bring back professionalism in Canadian cricket.
Khosa also pointed out Desai’s experience with associate nations like Nepal and Afghanistan, where he helped teams grow with better structure, discipline, and long-term planning. He added that Canada is at an important stage right now, especially after their recent appearance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, and believes the team can make strong progress under Desai’s leadership.
After his appointment, Desai said he feels honoured to take up the role and thanked Cricket Canada for trusting him. He also mentioned that he has worked in Canada before, which gives him a good understanding of the system and the passion players have for the game.
