  1. Rs 25,000 salary earners often delay SIPs.
  2. Apply the 50:30:20 rule for effective financial planning
  3. Start Rs 2,000 SIP, build an emergency fund for the future.

Young professionals who earn a monthly salary of Rs 25,000 often postpone the idea of starting a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) in the future, pretending they would start their investment journey once they earn a handsome amount.  These people often fall into the mindset that small amounts don't matter or that they need a significant surplus before they can begin investing. This fear of insignificance often leads to a cycle of waiting for a salary hike that never quite feels "enough" to start.

However, starting with a small amount could do wonders, providing a sense of financial stability in future.

Meanwhile, if you are in this salary basket and struggle with the same mindset, the antidote to this is the 50:30:20 rule. This is a practical framework that makes wealth creation possible at any income level.

A breakdown of a Rs 25,000 salary:

  • 50% for Needs (Rs 12,500): This amount needs to go for essentials like rent, groceries, and utilities.

  • 30% for Wants (Rs 7,500):  With this, you should upgrade your lifestyle, can spend on dining out, and entertainment.

  • 20% for Savings/Investments (Rs 5,000): The most critical portion for your future self.

Rs 2,000 SIP And Rs 3,000 Emergency Fund

Setting aside just Rs 5,000—the '20' in this rule—for saving and investment could be transformative. With this, you can start an Rs 2,000 SIP in a mutual fund, and you can start building an emergency buffer by saving Rs 3,000 a month. Later, you can find an investment instrument for Rs 3,000 as well, once you have significant money as an emergency fund. Ideally, you should have a three- to six-month emergency fund in your savings account.

Starting small with consistent SIP could be one of the best decisions you take in the early stage of your career.

Over time, the power of compounding turns these "small" monthly contributions into a substantial corpus. Don't wait for the perfect income; start where you are, with what you have, and let discipline build your wealth.
