In today’s digital era, UPI has become the go-to method for both small and large transactions. From grocery bills to payments worth thousands of rupees, transfers are usually completed within seconds. However, many users occasionally face a frustrating issue, UPI payments fail even when there is sufficient balance in the bank account.
If you’re unable to make payments through any UPI app despite having funds, the problem could be related to your bank’s threshold limit.

What Is the Threshold Limit?
A threshold limit is a predefined transaction cap set by banks to monitor and regulate account activity. It acts as a safeguard, ensuring that transactions beyond a certain amount trigger alerts or require verification. For example, if your withdrawal or transfer exceeds the permitted daily limit, the system may automatically block or decline the transaction.
Banks use threshold limits as a security measure to prevent fraud, unauthorised transfers, or suspicious activity. When a transaction hits or exceeds this limit, it may prompt the bank to send alerts, temporarily restrict services, or seek additional confirmation.
These limits vary depending on the type of account, banking history, and customer preferences. While individuals may opt for lower limits for added protection, businesses often maintain higher limits to accommodate frequent high-value transactions.
How to Fix the Threshold Limit Issue
If your UPI payments are failing due to a threshold limit, you may need to request an increase. In the case of government-owned banks, this process typically requires visiting the branch in person. You will need to fill out a threshold limit enhancement form and submit it along with copies of your PAN and Aadhaar. Carry your passbook as well to provide accurate account details.

When will you be able to make payments?
After submitting the request, the update usually takes one to two working days. If a weekend falls in between, the process may extend until Tuesday. Once the limit is revised, you should be able to resume smooth UPI transactions.
