- Wage rates hiked to a minimum of Rs 300 per day.
- Guaranteed work days increased from 100 to 125.
- New act brings tech transparency and agricultural pause.
The centre on Wednesday, July 1, notified the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee For Rozgar And Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act 2025 or VB-G RAM G Act, rolling out the benefits and revised guidelines across the country. The employment guarantee scheme, which was earlier known as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), was renamed as the VB-G-RAM G Act last year, incorporating more employment and wage benefits.
Meanwhile, if you are a resident of a village, then you might be wondering how the new act is different from the older act--MGNREGA--and what additional benefits the act brings. Let's explain it to you in 5 Points.
Top 5 Benefits of VB G-RAM G Scheme
Wage Rates Hiked
The government introduced a revised wage structure, introducing a minimum Rs 300 per day interim base wage. This will raise income for rural households and reduce wage disparities at the same time. Earlier, the national average for wages under MGNREGA was Rs 298.8 per day, and the same will be Rs 327.4 per day under the new act--a hike of Rs 28.6 per day, according to the government.
More Guaranteed Working Days — 125 Instead of 100
Under MGNREGA, residents in villages got a guaranteed 100 days of employment per year; the new VB-G RAM-G offer 25 more days of guaranteed wage employment, which is one of the biggest improvements.
The VB-G RAM G scheme raises this to 125 days per rural household annually, and the same translates to a meaningful increase in annual income for families that depend on this scheme.
As per the government, if 125 days of work are not provided within the prescribed time, the state government is legally required to pay an unemployment allowance.

Pause For Agricultural Season
As per the guidelines under the act, the state government will have to announce a pause of up to 60 days per year during the peak agricultural seasons like sowing and harvesting. This ensures the availability of rural labour for agricultural needs during the most critical periods.
The pause allows small and marginal farmers to manage their own agriculture work, and big farmers won’t lose labourers to scheme work at the worst possible time.
Tech Bring Transparency
The new law requires biometric attendance, GPS tracking at work, AI-based fraud detection, and weekly public disclosure of scheme data. This regulation strengthens accountability. For workers, this means that salaries in their name cannot be stolen. For the government, it means real-time data on what is working and what is not.
Existing MAGNREGA Card
The first worry that came into people mind, if their existing MGNREGA Job card would remain valid? The answer to the doubt is, existing MGNREGA job card remains valid until a new Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Card is issued.
What is VB G-RAM G Scheme
Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) was introduced last year, and the same has replaced the MGNREGA, which was enacted in 2005. The new scheme is aligned with the "Viksit Bharat @ 2047" vision. The scheme offers guaranteed rural employment to sustainable infrastructure, water security, and climate resilience.
