Stock market today live updates: The Indian stock market is expected to start the week on a volatile note on the backdrop of vote counting and announcement of results of assembly elections that took place in five states--West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Keralam, and Puducherry. The looming uncertainty around peace talks between the US and Iran will also impact the market sentiment. However, the sharp decline in crude prices could provide some relief.

According to an expert, markets enter the week with a cautious bias, bracing for a politically sensitive backdrop as attention turns to key state election outcomes.

"While state elections typically carry less structural significance than national polls, they remain important in shaping perceptions around policy continuity, regional growth prospects and investor confidence," said Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money.

"Current market positioning suggests that a degree of continuity is already priced in. Should outcomes align with exit polls or broadly reflect stable governance, the market reaction is likely to be measured rather than directional," he added.

Stock Market Today Update: Gold Trades Lower Amid Higher Crude Price

“Gold traded weak, declining around Rs 1500 to RS 149900, while COMEX gold slipped to $4566, down nearly $50, as rising crude prices continued to pressure bullion. Elevated oil prices are keeping inflation expectations high, which in turn supports a higher interest rate outlook, limiting gold’s upside. Markets are now focused on this week’s US Non-Farm Payrolls and unemployment data, which could further influence dollar strength and add pressure on gold," said Jateen Trivedi of LKP Securities.

In the near term, gold is expected to remain volatile with a slight downside bias, with support near Rs 148500 and resistance around Rs 151000, he added.

Stock Market Today Live Update: Rupee Settles Lower

Rupee weakened further, slipping below 95.05, as sustained FII outflows and crude prices above $100 continued to pressure the currency.

"Elevated oil prices are increasing India’s import bill and keeping inflation concerns high, limiting any recovery in the rupee. The trend remains weak, with 94.50 acting as immediate resistance and 95.40 as key support in the near term," said Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst - Commodity and Currency, LKP Securities.

Market focus this week will be on US Non-Farm Payrolls and unemployment data, which could influence dollar strength and drive further movement in the rupee, he added.

Stock Market Live Update Today: Investors' Sentiment Was Buoyed By Election Results: Expert

According to Experts, Investor sentiment remained supported by a favourable election outcome in West Bengal and better-than-expected Q4 earnings, helping markets look past Middle East-related concerns.

"However, intermittent profit booking persisted amid uncertainty surrounding the U.S. “Project Freedom” initiative to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. While the resolution path may take time, optimism around gradual progress continues. Crude prices holding below $110 are providing near-term comfort. Going ahead, market direction will hinge on geopolitical developments and oil price trends, given their impact on inflation, interest rates, the rupee, and corporate margins," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited.

Sensex Today Live Update: Election Results Drive Equity Indices Today

Today’s market action may be unduly influenced by the state election results, with a focus on West Bengal. But it is important to note that this will only be a very short-term sentimental impact.

"The real market trend will be guided by the crude oil prices, which, in turn, will be decided by the news and happenings in West Asia. President Trump’s declaration that the U.S. will help and guide ships through the Strait of Hormuz has brought  Brent crude down to around $ 108 levels. Also, there is a latest proposal from Iran to the US delivered through Pakistan," said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited.

Another major factor influencing market behaviour will be the FII activity. The continuing momentum in the AI trade implies that FIIs will continue to sell in India.

Indian Stock Market News Today Live Updates: FII Remains Seller Amid Geopolitical Tension

The total FPI outflows from India in 2026, so far, stand at a massive Rs 191968 crores.

"During April FPIs were sellers in the market for Rs 63167 crores, while they invested Rs 2319 crores through the primary market taking the net FPI outflows to Rs 60848 crores.  A significant trend in FPI flows this year is that Japan, South Korea and Taiwan are attracting significant inflows, while India and some other emerging markets which are facing headwinds from the energy crisis and currency depreciation, are facing outflows. An important factor driving capital flows is the AI trade, particularly in South Korea and Taiwan," said Dr. V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited.

Two companies in South Korea - Samsung and SK Hynix- and one in Taiwan- TSMC- are attracting the lions share of these inflows. The excellent results being posted by these companies are providing the fundamental support to the FPI flows into these markets. So long as the AI trade continues, the trend of FPI outflows from India is likely to continue, he added.

Stock Market Today Live Updates: Expert Predicts Gap-Down Opening

Market watchers said that Indian markets are poised to begin the week on a firm footing, with the Nifty signalling a gap-up opening near the 24,270 mark, well above the previous close of 23,997.

"The positive carryover reflects improving global sentiment, with Asian markets also trading in the green, setting the stage for a supportive start to domestic equities," said Hariprasad K, SEBI-registered Research Analyst and Founder, Livelong Wealth.

However, while the opening bias is clearly optimistic, the key question remains one of sustainability. Markets continue to operate in an environment where momentum is largely event-driven, rather than supported by broad-based conviction, Hariprasad K added.

Stock Market Today Live Updates: Sensex, Nifty Expected To Trade Volatile

The key equity indices are expected to trade volatily amid the counting of votes for assembly elections in five states.

"Today’s market direction will also be influenced by the outcome of key state elections. Investors will closely watch whether the ruling party at the Centre can wrest West Bengal from the Trinamool Congress and make meaningful inroads into opposition-ruled Kerala and Tamil Nadu, where the Bharatiya Janata Party currently has a limited presence," said Hariprasad K, SEBI-registered Research Analyst and Founder, Livelong Wealth.
