Stock Market Today: The domestic equity indices ended the highly volatile session in positive territory on Tuesday amid buying in IT heavyweights and other blue-chip stocks. The BSE Sensex closed at 74,649.84, up 382.50 points or 0.52 per cent, while Nifty 50 settled at 23,483.55, 100.95 points or 0.43 per cent.
Earlier, in the morning session, the 30-share BSE index was trading in the red, touching an intraday low at 73,815.12, down 452 points from the previous closing of 74,267.34 due to subdued investor sentiment amid uncertainty looming over US-Iran peace talks. However, in the afternoon, the scene took a complete turnaround as the index recovered from the early gains to touch an intraday high at 74,862.19--up over 900 Points from the day's low.
"Markets recovered from initial losses, led by gains in the IT sector, while continued accumulation in large-cap stocks reflected comfort with valuations, as the Nifty 50 trades closer to its long-term averages than the relatively richer valuations in broader markets. Despite ongoing delays in a Middle East truce, global sentiment remained stable, highlighting resilience in risk appetite. With the earnings season largely concluded, investor focus has shifted to key macro factors including monsoon progress, inflation trends, RBI policy, and liquidity conditions," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited.
