LPG Gas Cylinder E-KYC Pending: The Centre has made biometric Aadhaar authentication (e-KYC) mandatory for domestic LPG consumers to combat black marketing and ensure the smooth supply of cylinders. In the midst of this, rumors have been circulating that if customers fail to complete e-KYC, their gas connections will be disconnected.

Is it true that gas connections will be disconnected if e-KYC is not done?

The central government has now responded to these claims. The Ministry of Petroleum has clarified that e-KYC is required only for customers whose verification process is still incomplete.

The government has stated that this is not a new rule. The ministry shared this information through social media platforms, explaining that it is part of an ongoing campaign. The main goal is to encourage more gas customers to complete their biometric verification to prevent any fraudulent activities in the system. The ministry urged LPG users to visit the official government website to complete their e-KYC or to contact their distributors.

LPG Gas Cylinder: Who needs to complete e-KYC, and who doesn’t?

If you are a regular LPG customer and have already completed your e-KYC, there is no need to repeat the process. This rule applies only to customers whose records have not been updated yet.

For Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, the rules are slightly different. These customers must complete biometric verification at least once every financial year. This verification is required for Ujjwala customers who wish to avail the targeted Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) subsidy on the 8th and 9th refills after receiving 7 cylinders in a year.

Even if biometric Aadhaar authentication/e-KYC is not completed, the targeted subsidy will continue until the 7th refill and will stop thereafter. The subsidy will only be restored once e-KYC is completed before the end of the financial year.

Importantly, the LPG supply for both Ujjwala and non-Ujjwala beneficiaries will not be interrupted under any circumstances.
