  1. UAN activation can be done only through UMANG mobile application.
  2. The app requires Aadhaar-based Face Authentication for secure verification.
  3. EPFO Unified Member Portal no longer supports UAN activation.

EPFO UAN Activation Update: If you are a new employee or need to activate your EPFO Universal Account Number (UAN), there is an important update. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has discontinued the option to activate UANs through its Unified Member Portal. UAN activation can now only be completed through the government-backed UMANG mobile application using Aadhaar-based Face Authentication (FAT).

This change is part of EPFO's upgraded Unified Member Portal, introduced on July 3 following a major system upgrade aimed at enhancing security, reliability, and user experience.

Under the new system, members who wish to activate an existing UAN or generate a new one must complete the process exclusively through the UMANG app using Aadhaar-based facial authentication.

What Is UMANG App?

The Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG) is an integrated digital platform developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in collaboration with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD). It serves as a single gateway for citizens to access more than 1,700 services offered by central, state, and local government departments.

The UMANG app supports around 22 regional languages, making government services accessible to users across India. It also uses Aadhaar-based authentication and advanced encryption standards to help ensure the security of users' personal information.

Along with making the UMANG app mandatory for UAN activation, EPFO has introduced a redesigned user interface for its Unified Member Portal. According to the organisation, the upgraded portal is designed to deliver faster, more secure, and more reliable online services.
