- Check EPF balance via the UMANG App and the EPFO portals.
- New CITES platform streamlines interest credit process.
Did you also get an SMS alert on the EPFO-registered number for the credit of interest for FY26? The government had earlier announced start crediting 8.25 per cent by July 15 for crores of Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) members, and since then many members have received interest rate credit to their EPF account.
According to an announcement made earlier, annual interest may reflect in the provident fund account for the last financial year (FY2025-26) from July 15, as the retirement fund body was due to begin crediting interest at the approved rate of 8.25 per cent.
However, if you missed the SMS alert and want to check your interest credit status, then you can verify the updated balance through multiple methods, including the UMANG App, Passbook Lite through the EPFO Member portal, and the EPFO Member e-Sewa portal.
How To Check If Interest Has Been Credited
1-EPF interest credit status can be checked by logging in to the EPFO Member Passbook portal using 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN), password and captcha.
2-On the EPFO e-Sewa portal, through OTP verification via the Aadhaar-linked mobile number, members can access Passbook Lite to view recent contributions. Any withdrawals and the updated account balance can also be checked.
3-EPF interest rate update can also be checked by the UMANG App by tracking contributions on the app
This latest interest waiver will be the first major step taken by the EPFO to provide benefits to its members after migrating its entire database to the new centralised digital platform under the Centralised Information Technology Enabled Services (CITES) scheme.
Minister Announced Earlier
The Employees' Provident Fund (EPFO) is processing the interest payment on provident funds for FY26, Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said last week.
The minister further said that members can check the updated amount online by July 15.
Earlier, the EPFO portal was not available for many days; however, according to the minister, the online access of provident fund accounts has been enabled with the implementation of 2.01 CITES (centralised IT-enabled services) by the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).
The main objective of the CITES project is to improve the facilities of EPFO, increase its operational efficiency, and provide transparent, uninterrupted services to the members.
"Annual interest for FY26 at the rate of 8.25 per cent to 34 crore member accounts, estimated at over Rs 1.44 lakh crore, will be auto-processed and then verified by Field Authorities before being credited to the member account balances. Members will be able to view the interest credit in their passbook by July 15," the minister said. Last month, the government approved the 8.25 per cent interest payment on provident funds.
According to the minister, earlier, the interest payment process was carried out in October-November after government approval.
