Bank Holiday In May 2026: In April, the bank branches were closed for 14 days--including national, regional holidays and fixed week-offs--, now as the month closes and the new month--May--is about to begin, customers should start planning their banking activities. According to Holiday Calendar, bank branches across India will remain closed for around 12 days due to a mix of weekends, national holidays, and region-specific festivals.

These holidays include all Sundays, along with the second and fourth Saturdays, according to Reserve Bank of India guidelines. Furthermore, the bank branches will also remain closed in particular states or locations based on regional festivals.
Considering the multiple days of bank closure in the upcoming month, customers should check the holiday calendar in advance and plan their important work and bank visits accordingly.

May 1- Bank branches in Many states will remain closed on the occasion of Labour Day, Maharashtra Day, and Buddha Purnima.
May 3: Fixed Bank Holiday On Sunday
May 9: Holiday For Second Saturday
May 10: Fixed Holiday On Sunday
May 16: Bank branches will remain closed in Sikkim for Sikkim State Day.
May 17: Fixed Holiday On Sunday
May 23: Fixed Holiday For Fourth Saturday of May
May 24: Fixed Holiday On Sunday
May 26: Bank branches will remain closed in Tripura for Kazi Nazrul Islam Jayanti.
May 27-28: Bank branches will remain closed in many states for Bakri Eid.
May 31: Fixed Holiday On Sunday
Digital Banking Will Remain Operational
Despite bank closures, customers can use online banking services for fund transfer. Services like UPI, IMPS, NEFT, and RTGS will remain operational during the holidays as well. Additionally, ATM withdrawals will also be available.
Stock Market Holiday In May 2026
Apart from fixed weekly off--Saturday, Sunday---the Indian stock exchanges---NSE and BSE---will remain closed on two days in May 2026. The Stock market will remain closed on the very first day of the month, Friday, May 1, 2026, for Maharashtra Day. The equity market will be closed on Thursday, May 28, 2026, for Bakri Eid/Eid Al-Adha.
Meanwhile, trading in derivatives and SLB segments will be suspended on these dates.
