Inflows in equity mutual fund schemes stood at Rs 29,329 crore in August, rising 19 per cent month-on-month from Rs 24,697 crore in July. With this, the equity inflow marked the highest net inflow in four months–since April, when equity schemes attracted Rs 38,440 crore, according to data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) on Thursday. 

Gold ETFs saw a massive uptick in investor sentiment during the month, recording net inflows of Rs 2,597 crore—registering a 66.5 per cent uptick from Rs 1,559 crore inflow registered in July.

The uptick in equity mutual fund inflow in the month was primarily driven by strong investor interest in mid-cap and small-cap funds.

Overall Net Inflow Declines  

However, net investment inflows in the overall mutual fund industry fell sharply to Rs 41,353 crore this month from Rs 2.36 lakh crore last month, driven by Rs 8,127 crore outflow from debt-oriented schemes this month. In July, the net inflow was  Rs 1.88 lakh crore.

Assets Under Management Reach 87.07 lakh Crore

Despite the decline in overall inflows, the industry's assets under management increased from Rs 85.75 lakh crore at the end of July to Rs 87.07 lakh crore till August. According to AMFI data, equity-oriented schemes saw a net inflow of Rs 29,328.62 crore during the month, which is the highest inflow since such schemes attracted Rs 38,440 crore in April. Meanwhile, net inflows in the previous month were: Rs 28,973 crore in June and Rs 22,908 crore in May.
