Fraud Case Closed

This development brings to a close a high-profile securities and wire fraud case in New York, after prosecutors concluded they could not pursue charges.

In addition, several U.S. regulatory and legal investigations involving the group have come to a halt.

Case Settlement

Last week, the US Securities and Exchange Commission settled a civil complaint against the two for information related to solar power projects in India.

Court filings show that Gautam Adani has agreed to pay US$6 million and Sagar Adani has agreed to pay US$12 million, without admitting or denying any wrongdoing.

The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control later settled allegations that the Adani Group violated a US ban on LPG imports from Iran. The Indian group subsequently agreed to extend its "full cooperation" with the investigation, provide "proactive" information, and pay US$275 million.

Now, US prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York have dropped all charges against Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani.

In its court filing, the U.S. The Department of Justice requested that the charges against Adani be dismissed with prejudice.

"The Department of Justice has reviewed this case and has decided, in its prosecutorial discretion, not to devote further resources to these criminal charges against individual defendants," it said.

Thereafter, the court ordered that the indictment against Adani and others "be dismissed with prejudice".
